I am working on planning and organizing my life for more than 2 years now. I was struggling a lot with this. I still fight with myself sometimes. The plan will always be only a plan. You have to put a lot of effort to implement it. Nevertheless, planning gives us the opportunity to MAKE our life happen (and shape it the way we want) instead of just letting it happen the way it does.
When we switch focus from caring what might happen to plan what we want to happen, there are few magical things that we notice.
Firstly, the same energy is used with a better result. We plan ahead, we can decide calmly what we want to do, where we want to be instead of making decisions in rush.
That leads us to the fact that we „defend our territory” better. We can say „no” to some things that are not beneficial to us or even are disturbing us with improving our personalities or skills. We can filter the stuff out from our life and keep only what matters most.
For me planning also improved creativity and getting better results after all. The blog, for example, I wanted to start a blog a few year ago (even before thinking about working on my good habits). For a long time, I had no idea what should I post on. Then recently I found the topics I want to write about but actually noting down the ideas of topics and planning when to publish certain post gave it momentum. And the more topics I write down, the more ideas pop into my mind.
It takes a lot of work and time, but it’s definitely worth doing.
Recently also I’ve discovered a great way to boost the effect of planning.
It’s called accomplishment journal. The idea behind this is simply writing down the tasks that we’ve achieved. And by task, I mean not only the item from your to-do list but also useful and important items that popped up during the day that had to be taken care of or something you just decided to do to push some project forward. Anything that’s valuable to your life.
I’m trying to not be too hard on myself and appreciate what I managed to achieve that day. Even when the whole day I didn’t do much from tasks for my thesis, I put a date with my boyfriend on the „achieved” list. It was important for me personally. We had difficult time recently. A lot of things happened, we haven’t had much time for each other, and I rather do something nice for him than working mindlessly on my project. It boosted both my and his moods so it was worth in my opinion.
This switches your focus on not what do I have to do left, but rather actually achieving the goals you have, doing the tasks you should do. It motivates me at least.
It also gives you the opportunity to recap and reevaluate what you’re doing, is it really that important to you. It helps with estimating how much you can achieve during one day as well.
Accomplish more than you thought you’re able to. Work with passion and creativity.
Peace and love as usual 🙂
